What are the fire safety regulations for rallying
In 2018 we updated you on the changes to the fire regulations which made it a requirement to have a plumbed in fire suppression system on new vehicles from 1st January 2019 and on all vehicles from 1st January 2022. In the rallying world it is a necessity to have a larger capacity (4ltr) plumbed in system and a hand held device.
Why do I need two extinguishers?
Rallying is exhilarating, pushing a car to its absolute limits really gets the adrenaline going but it can also be very dangerous. One of the biggest dangers and therefore one of a drivers biggest fears is fire. Huge leaps have been made in fire safety over recent decades but the combination of fuel, electrical systems, hot vehicle parts and high speed means the sport will never be without an element of danger from fire and it doesn’t take long for a fire to take hold and spread through a car.
Hopefully a fire extinguisher will prevent fire from destroying your car but its main purpose is to protect the driver if you end up trapped following an accident, to give you the vital extra seconds you might need to get out. It therefore goes without saying that investing in good fire extinguishers is really important.
How much do they cost?
The best fire extinguishers don’t come cheap but if they save your life then it’s worth every penny. At CAM Auto Developments we offer mechanical or electric plumbed in systems which are on FIA Technical list 16 and the Rally Packs come with an additional hand held extinguisher for that extra level of safety. Prices start from just £337.02 and when you buy the two extinguishers together you save money too, up to £97. Both are supplied complete with all of the components required for installation.
Here at CAM Auto Developments we are proud Lifeline product retailers and are also authorised service agents of their extinguishers. We can supply, service and refill all Lifeline models. Our cylinders are stored empty and filled to order so you benefit from the full two year service period. Fire extinguishers are also tricky things to ship but we work with UPS to ensure we are able to deliver to the UK and Mainland Europe.
